The National Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) is a government entity that collects and produces official statistics and information on Madagascar. The institute uses this information to conceive and coordinate the implementation of national policies pertaining to economic, social and demographic issues. INSTAT’s objectives are to make available economic and statistical information related to the socio-economic development of Madagascar and to coordinate the work of different entities that collect and process data.
INSTAT has two main publication products: surveys on labour markets, the informal sector, households, consumption, demography, etc. and studies and analysis of policy relevant issues in Madagascar on issues such as:
- poverty reduction
- health and education
- social services
- fiscal policy.
The website, which is only available in French, contains information on the economy of Madagascar as well as many downloadable studies on the above-mentioned issues of interest to the country.
