EDGE Americas Retreat 2023 – Cross-Regional Solidarity – Building Community for Systemic Change
The Americas Members in person Retreat will open from May 31st to June 2nd with a conversation on the true meaning of building international solidarity among different funding regions and share knowledge about grantmaking work in the region. Members of EDGE based in the America will have the opportunity to connect in person, in Mexico City. During the two and a half days , we aim to learn together and from each other, to initiate and deepen concrete collaboration across the network, and to discuss and plan joint actions that can influence the wider philanthropic sector to address systemic alternatives and shift more resources to this cause.
The yearly EDGE Americas retreat is an important convening to cultivate what brings us together in EDGE, which is,the conviction that we acknowledge the systemic, interconnected nature of the fundamental crisis situation the world is in, and to seek systemic answers, through experimentation and learning, together.
The retreat includes spaces for connection and community building, as well as facilitated conversations on topics focused on building cross-regional solidarity between Global North and South in progressive philanthropy, the importance of intermediaries in this context and an exploration of challenges and opportunities related to progressive grantmaking. Participants will have the opportunity to present and co-facilitate conversations they deem important to center with community members.
The retreat will also offer an opportunity for EDGE members based in the Americas to reflect what conversations and topics they would like to center at the EDGE Annual Conference, which will take place in Berlin on October 18-20, 2023.
