The Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace (CICP) was founded at a time when Cambodia was emerging from more than two decades of war, conflict, isolation, and violent revolution. As a policy-oriented think tank, CICP has attempted to provide various inputs into public policy formulation. It is dedicated to cultivating greater understanding of national, regional, and international issues that are of concern to Cambodia. which is reentering the world community at a time of unprecedented opportunity and complexity. The Institute believes that internal and external stability are linked and that regional peace and prosperity are necessary for the future peace and prosperity of Cambodia. CICP fosters both a domestic and a Southeast Asian constructive dialogue among government officials, international organizations, scholars, and the private sector on issues of security, foreign policy, conflict resolution, economics, and national development. Under the umbrella of its mission, the Institute pursues two broad goals: to enhance the ability of government officials and the public to make informed public policy decisions; and to promote regional and international cooperation. CICP fulfills its mission through the following activities: sponsorship of lectures, workshops, and international conference on topical issues such as Cambodia’s regional economic relations and national defense policy; training of Cambodian government officials and the public in negotiation, economics, and international relations; research on international affairs such as Cambodia’s foreign policy and the impact of ASEAN membership; publication of research results, of institute activities, and of the work of other contributors; and development of institutional relationships with sister organizations in Cambodia and abroad, especially within ASEAN-ISIS.
