Under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, the Sugarcane Breeding Institute (SBI) is engaged in the research, extension and evolution of varieties of sugarcane for different agro-climatic zones across India. Research projects include:

  • breeding of superior sugarcane varieties with improved yields, equality and resistance.
  • improvement of yield potential of sugarcane varieties by agronomic practices under different environment and input conditions
  • studies on the effect of certain soil conditions and fertilisers on nutrient uptake, yield and equality of sugarcane.
