Aims to provide a geographic quantification of the soil conditions and processes which regulate the emission of greenhouse gases, especially methane, from soils. To be achieved by compilation of a global soil database with a resolution of 1/2ø longitude by 1/2ø latitude. Information on the geographical distribution of soils is from the updated 1:5 M digital FAO/UNESCO Soil Map of the World and soil profile data will be drawn from the major soil data holders, ISRIC, FAO, and the USDA-SCS, supplemented by contributions from national soil survey and profiles contained in reports held in ISRIC library. The database will contain in excess of 3,000 soil profiles.
