Support unit for the UN Disaster Management team in Ethiopia. Regular reports produced on topics including the food security of vulnerable areas, the situation in the Ethiopian Somali Region and Afar Region, and in Somalia and Northwest Somalia (Somaliland), also a monthly situation report for Ethiopia based on collected information from the UN, Government and NGOs operating in the country. Current and previous reports held on WWW site of African Studies Center, University of Pennsylvania.
Over the years the Emergencies Unit has covered topics on the reintegration of returnees, community-based conflict resolution, food security, changing patterns of pastoralism, and wild foods. The EUE is studying pastoralism and conflict: an assessment of the causes and possible solutions to conflict in pastoral communities with a particular focus on Borena, Southern Ethiopia.
