United Nations and partners initiative created in reponse to and to accompany work of UN High-Level Panel on Threats, Challenges and Change to assess new dangers to international security and to recommend measures to strengthen institutions of collective security
Major elements of the initiative include:
- promoting the discussion of new ideas concerning global peace and security and informing the discussions of the High-Level Panel during its inquiry phase by commissioning issue briefs from a wide range of thinkers in many countries
- organizing policy roundtables and regional forums that bring policy experts and practitioners, including representatives of the High-Level Panel itself, in direct discussion with key voices representing diverse elements of civil and political society
- sponsoring broader citizen outreach, to include web-based dialogues, speakers and panel programs, commentary in the media, issue forums at schools and universities, with the goal of better equipping both citizens and national policymakers to make informed decisions about common global policy concerns and their country’s stake in multilateral action; and
- stimulating ongoing interest and inquiry, on a broad range of issues of global importance long after the High-Level Panel has concluded its work
Web site includes: details of High-Level Panel’s tasks and remit; issue papers on specific topics being considered by the panel; online forums; details of partners; opinion pieces; press articles; conventions, declarations and treaties; reports, speeches and statements.
