The Foundation’s objectives are (a) to contribute to the conservation and wise use of tropical rain forests, by generating knowledge and developing methodologies, and (b) to involve and strengthen both local research institutions and capacity in tropical rain forests.
Foundation maintaining 5 research locations (Cameroon, Colombia, Cote d’ Ivoire, Guyana, Indonesia). Maintains a bibliographic database (called Tropenliteratuur) on research in tropical rainforests, and information on related studies and disciplines. Some 4500 records from 1991 to date. The Coordinating Unit of the European Tropical Forest Research Network (ETFRN), see separate entry, is now hosted by Tropenbos. WWW site contains research project details and publication information.
