SISERA is an IDRC research program in Africa. It is a multi-donor structure created in July 1997, with a mission to reinforce African research centers’ capacity in research and management. Its support modalities include core institutional grants, support to collaborative thematic research, electronic connectivity and promoting the dissemination and publication of policy-oriented research. SISERA has a network of African economic research centers considered as its partner institutions.

SISERA’s main activities include providing financial and technical support to African research centers and organizing an annual forum for discussions on issues of interest to African countries. Through these activities, SISERA seeks to:

  • strengthen African research institutions in order to allow them to design, implement and disseminate research that has a strong local input
  • foster cooperation among African research centers
  • give local researchers the opportunity to contribute significantly to a better understanding of Africa’s economic challenges and policy options
  • facilitate African researcher’s access to the Internet and to electronic messaging
  • improve the dissemination of research results of African centers mainly through the launch of the Working Paper Series that publishes research outputs of Partner Institutions and Emerging Centers and focuses on policy-oriented research

Relevant research topics include shared economic growth in Africa, infrastructure and the social sector, monetary issues, and bridging research and policy.

SISERA’s website includes more information about its activities and publications, as well as online publications. The website is available in both English and French.
