PeaceWomen.org is a project of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) United Nations Office, in New York City. The PeaceWomen Project monitors and works toward rapid and full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security. To these ends, activities include:
- hosting Peacewomen.org, a website that provides accurate and timely information on women, peace and security issues and women’s peace-building initiatives in areas of armed conflict
- working to facilitate communication among and mobilization of advocates and supporters in civil society, the UN system and governments working on women, peace and security issues
- advocating for the integration of gender analysis in the governance, peace and security work of civil society actors, the UN system, and governmental bodies
PeaceWomen’s activities are based on UN Security Council Resolution 1325; in response to the unanimous adoption of UNSC Resolution 1325, WILPF developed the PeaceWomen Project in 2001 to monitor implementation of Resolution 1325 and advocate for its full and rapid implementation.
The PeaceWomen website has links to text versions of Resolution 1325, to the Women, War, and Peace Web Portal and to UNIFEM, to various UN sites related to women and gender, to a country by country news index, to country-specific and thematic civil society, UN and government documents, and to in-country and regional initiatives.
