Project and related reports looking at Internet developments in Africa. Reports use results of field studies on ICT developments mainly in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Reports include:
- main project report looking at how people are responding to ICT based information, opportunities for further uses of the Internet, constraints to the growth of the Internet and the growing uses of mobile phones with a focus on WAP phones as one avenue to widen access to Internet services
- handbook 1 – describes a Participatory Design Methodology – a People Approach to Produce Web Content (PAPWEC). The methodology can be appropriately used to produce web based information for development purposes. The handbook looks at the rationale behind the methodology and the building blocks of the methodology
- handbook 2 – a web training manual based on PAPWEC
- Handbook 3 – looks at translation of PAPWEC in the building a prototype web resource
- handbook 4 – describes some concepts and techniques that can be used to carry out impact assessments of web sites
