NIKK – the Nordic Institute for Women’ Studies and Gender Research is an interdisciplinary Nordic research institution financed by the Nordic Council of Ministers. NIKK is a forum for feminist, women’s and men’s studies, gender research and activities in the Nordic countries.
NIKK’s aim is to advance, initiate, co-ordinate and inform about Women’s Studies and Gender Research both within and outside of the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden). NIKK:
- provides a common platform for Nordic co-operation with the adjacent areas of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and north west Russia, as well as Europe and other parts of the world
- strives to uphold a high Nordic profile which will hopefully help to increase the degree of visability of Nordic Women´s Studies and Gender Research in a global context
- aims to provide information and services which go beyond those made available by respective local or national entities
NIKK´s activities include initiating/conducting/producing the following:
- Nordic research projects
- research courses
- conferences and seminars
- research networks
- information service, e.g. through newsletters and the web site
NIKK also functions as a contact point between research and gender equality work and between research and women´s movements/activism.
