Resource organisation set up by the Government of India to assist and advise central and state governments on academic matters related to school education. NCERT has the following departments:

As well as conducting in-house research, NCERT supports research programmes of other institutions by providing financial assistance and academic guidance. Assistance is given to scholars for publication of Ph.D. theses. Research fellowships are offered to encourage studies in school education to create a research base for developmental, training and extension programmes and to create a pool of competent research workers. It also organises courses for educational research workers and collaborates with international agencies in inter-country research projects.
In addition, NCERT publishes several journals, including the Primary Teacher; Journal of Indian Education; Indian Education Review; Bharatiya Adhunik Shiksha.
