An Islamic research centre that helps implement Shari’ah in the field of economics, finance and banking.
IRTI is a member of the Islamic Development Bank Group. The purpose of IRTI is to undertake research for enabling the economic, financial and banking activities in Muslim countries to conform to Shari’ah and to extend training facilities to personnel engaged in economic development activities in the Bank’s member countries.
The aim of the institute is to:
- organise and conduct basic and applied research with a view to developing models and methods for the application of Shari’ah in the field of economics, finance and banking
- provide for the training and development of professional personnel in Islamic economics to meet the needs of research and Shari’ah-observing agencies
- train personnel engaged in development activities in the Bank’s member countries
- establish an information center to collect, systematise and disseminate information in fields related to its activities
The Institute operates through three Technical Divisions, an Information Center and two Units:
- the technical divisions include: Islamic Economics, Cooperation and Development Division (IECD); Islamic Banking and Finance Division (IBFD); and Training Division which includes both a programming and planning section, and a training studies section
- the Information Center (IRTIC) aims to collect systematise and disseminate information in fields related to its activities
- the two IRTI units are the special assignment unit which is responsible for the implementation of IRTI Programs and the administrative unit which provides the necessary administrative support to all IRTI activities
