IIASA is an international NGO research institute (established in 1972) working on the scientific study of global change, in particular the policy aspects of environmental, economic, and technological processes of change. Current studies include analyses of transboundary air pollution in Europe and Southeast Asia, the sustainable development of Siberia’s forest resources, global land use, global energy systems and the environment, economic transitions in formerly socialist countries, chemical flows within river basins, links between population and the environment, the verification and enforcement of international environmental treaties, and advanced methods for systems analysis. Former projects include water use strategies in Egypt and Eastern Europe
