The International Centre for Ethnic Studies (ICES) conducts research on violent group conflict and related issues of governance and development. The ICES conducts its research on five themes:

  • peaceful resolution of inter-group conflict
  • corruption-free democratic governance
  • sustainable and equitable development
  • social justice and fundamental human rights
  • international co-operation and understanding

The ICES works with a variety of partners, including scholars, policymakers, and practitioners, to take forward its research programmes. The ICES puts forth a number of publications, conducts workshops, conferences, and provides opportunities for research, training courses, fellowships and internships. Through its website, ICES give on-line access to a database on:

  • Sri Lanka demography
  • Sri Lankan economy
  • ethnic conflict of Sri Lanka
  • Sri Lankan maps
  • political & economic events

ICES also provides access to scholars and researchers through its library and documentation centre that includes extensive material on the centre’s research areas and a wide selection of scholarly journals and current periodicals from around the world.
