Civitas Georgica was set up in 1996 as a non-profit and non-governmental international association. The main idea behind the organization was to assist democratic reforms, to support the establishment of effective local government and to advance active local participation in the decision-making process. Civitas Georgica has already conducted a number of joint development projects with the USAID, TACIS, DAI, Democracy International and other governmental and non-governmental organizations.
The Association monitors and analyzes the social and economic development of Georgia. Current projects are:
- ’Local Government Transparency’ to enhance civic participation in local decision making, i.e. in low and public control over the government
- ‘Promoting CBO Development in Georgia’: special consideration is given to Community Based Organizations (CBOs) to become powerful community tools to actively cooperate with newly elected local government and play a major role in formation of democratic and open society
