The Institutional and Policy Support Team (IPST) is the successor to the ‘Community-based Animal Health and Participatory Epidemiology (CAPE) Unit’ in the African Union/Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources. Most of the information and resource documents that were on the old CAPE website are now available on this new website for the IPST.

The Outputs of the Institutional and Policy Support Team, 2005 to 2010 are outlined:

  • Output 1: Regional and national bodies able to design and enable pro-poor policies in the livestock sub-sector
  • Output 2: Effective public-private sector partnerships for sustainable delivery of livestock services to poor producers.
  • Output 3: Regional bodies able to organise effective regional representation at international standard setting forums relevant to the livestock sub-sector.
  • Output 4: Revised pro-poor and pro-African international standards and norms to facilitate trade in livestock commodities. This output will build on AU/IBAR’s previous work on commodity-based livestock trade and the need to promote revision of the relevant international standards, plus better integration of the animal health and human food safety standards, and the need for credible, internationally-accepted certification systems.

The website contains a document library organised under the following headings:

  • Livestock Trade and Marketing
  • Public-Private Delivery of Primary Animal Health Services
  • Conflict in Cross-Border Pastoral Ecosystems
  • Development Relief in the Livestock Sub-Sector
  • AU/IBAR Policy Briefing Papers
