INTAL is part of the Integration and Regional Programs Department of the Inter-American Development Bank. For more than 30 years INTAL has been actively involved in research activities, technical cooperations for governments and institutions in the academic and business field, and training in support of the integration and regional cooperation processes. The Institute’s focuses on the demands and changes produced in the regional integration scenario in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as a response to the strong tendency towards the globalization of the economies which came about in the latest years around the world. This includes work on:

  • Regional and National Cooperation Projects on Integration, which will provide technical support to the development of the subregional integration processes and/or the participation of specific countries in the said projects, as well as to the evolution of the hemispheric process which came about with the Summit of the Americas.
  • Policy Fora represented by discussion and debate meetings on integration issues with the active participation of government officials, businessmen, labor leaders, experts, NGO representatives and sub-regional integration organizations.
  • Integration Fora gives room for analysis of base studies generated through the INTAL Integration Research Centers Network (RedINT) related to highly relevant integration issues of which there is not enough information at a subregional or national level. These studies serve as a basis for reaching conclusions to the various groups taking part in the integration and trade initiatives in the region.
  • Information channelled through Publications, services provided by the INTAL Documentation Center, data bases and the implementation of a Web Page. In the area of Publications the Integration & Trade Journal includes articles referred to different ongoing or potential integration processes and to trade in the framework of the respective schemes and with the rest of the world. It is published three times a year. The Monthly Newsletter provides news on events and normatives related to the integration processes, bibliographic references and the schedule and description of the Institute’s activities. Several other papers and reports are published and details can be found in Publications.
