As a civil society research, advocacy and capacity building organisation, IDEG is committed to a set of organisational principles and objectives. In the discharge of its primary functions, IDEG subscribes to principles of non-partisanship, not-for-profit, and independence, having as key objectives:

  • To carry out research and analysis of development strategies, policies and programmes, monitoring their impact on democracy and good governance;
  • To publish and disseminate information on research findings so as to enlighten public policy debates and strengthen advocacy for alternative development strategies;
  • To develop ideas and methods for effective participation of civil society and private sector actors in the public policy process through the formulation, implementation and evaluation of economic and social development policies;
  • To organise public forums to sustain popular participation in development policy thinking, dialogue, and consensus building in order to foster strategic partnership between non-state and state actors; and
  • To promote awareness and strengthen respect for human rights
