The Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) is an advanced research institute established by the Reserve Bank of India for carrying out research on development issues from a multi-disciplinary points of views. At present the Institute has about 120 employees that include about 36 full time faculty members, and about 51 Ph.D. students The aims and objectives of the Institute are to promote and conduct research on development (in its economic, technological, social, political and ecological aspects) from a broad inter-disciplinary perspective; to gain insights into the process of development and alternative policy options and to disseminate the knowledge so gained. IGIDR is implementing the Indian Capacity 21 project, initiated by the Ministry of Environment and Forests of the Government of India, to explore inter-linkages between environment and economics. Its library contains over 40,000 printed documents, and subscribes to over 460 national and international journals. It is open to visitors for reference. Library catalogue is searchable online from the igidr website. The library is planning to construct a Union Catalogue of Journals of selected Economics and Management Libraries in India.
