The Gender and Disaster Network (GDN) is an educational project initiated by women and men interested in gender relations in disaster contexts. It emerged from a meeting during the July 1997 Natural Hazards Research and Applications Center workshop in Denver, Colorado. It aims to document and analyse women’s and men’s experiences before, during and after disaster, situating gender relations in broad political, economic, historical and cultural contexts.

GDN aims to foster information sharing and resource building among network members by acting as a place to: collect and post research, projects and ideas; post events and conference information; serve as an employment bulletin board; provide information on scholarship and funding opportunities; and share contact information with other network members.
