The Fertilizer Advisory, Development and Information Network for Asia and the Pacific (FADINAP) was established in 1978 as a United Nations interagency network of ESCAP, FAO and UNIDO to provide assistance to the developing countries of the region in their efforts to increase food production by supporting the development of an efficient and effectively functioning fertilizer sector in Asia and the Pacific region. FADINAP works closely with national and international fertilizer organizations as well as with the fertilizer industry.

Recent focus of work have been
1. Development of guidelines for promoting liberalization of fertilizer markets,
2. Development of country specific strategies on environmentally sound use of fertilizers, and
3. Adaptation of FADINAP agro-chemicals information system to modern communication technology based on the Internet.

FADINAP maintains a regional information web site at www.fadinap.org providing rich information on fertilizer production, trade and use in the region as well as linkages to fertilizer and agro-chemicals related sites worldwide. Important sections of the web site include:

Fertilizer directory – an interactive on-line directory containing over 2,000 addresses of fertilizer producers, traders, handlers and other organizations involved in the fertilizer sector. An on-line facility to add or update record is provided.

Agro-chemicals bibliographic database – contains over 8,000 citations with abstracts of literatures/documents on fertilizer and agro-chemicals mostly from Asia and the Pacific. Search facility is provided.

Fertilizer statistics – provides time-series data on retail prices of fertilizer products in selected countries in Asia and the Pacific as well as general agricultural and fertilizer statistics.

Buy and Sale Bulletin Board – an interactive on-line bulletin board for posting purchase and sale of fertilizer/agro-chemicals products.
