DIAL is a public research centre specialized in applied economic and demographic analysis in developing countries. Its research program focuses on three themes:

  1. formation of inequalities and poverty
  2. governance, institutions and distribution of resources in the long term and
  3. aid, international strategies and world inequalities

DIAL’s integrated work method combines applied research, statistical surveys and policy monitoring and evaluation. Dial consists of a partnership between the Institute for Development Research (IRD) and the French Development Agency (AFD). The main location of the IRD Research unit is in Paris with three sub-units in Mali, Senegal and Vietnam. DIAL has a team of around 25 people, including researchers from IRD and other bodies, academics, INSEE statisticians, PhD students and administrative staff.
