The Department of International Development (QEH) is the University of Oxford’s centre for development studies and forms part of the Social Sciences Division of the University. It provides a focus for the University’s research and teaching on development studies.

Their objective is to conduct high level research which advances understanding of the complex economic, social and political processes of change in countries in the poorer parts of the world and to educate students to understand these processes in a multi-disciplinary perspective.

Research at QEH is divided into five broad thematic areas:

  • international and national economic development
  • human development, gender and the environment
  • forced migration
  • development and conflict
  • states, markets and politics: Africa and South Asia
