The Office for Developed and Transition Economies (ODTE) is one of Consumers International’s five offices and is based in London. It defends the rights of all consumers, particularly the poor and marginalised, through empowering national consumer groups, campaigning, and lobbying decision-makers at regional and international levels.
ODTE has two main objectives:
- to support the development of the consumer movement: through institution and capacity building programmes, ODTE provides advice and training to consumer activists in Eastern and Central Europe, the Former Soviet Republics, and the Near East
- representation and campaigns: ODTE represents its members and campaigns at regional and global levels enabling consumers to input in the global decision-making process. ODTE’s main policy areas are food, trade, electronic commerce, sustainable consumption and corporate social responsibility
ODTE also operates the Secretariat for the Trans Atlantic Consumer Dialogue (TACD) (http://www.tacd.org/).
