ICDDR,B: Centre for Health and Population Research is an international health research institution located in Bangladesh. Formerly know as the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, ICDDR,B has expanded its activities to address global health needs. In collaboration with partners from academic and research institutions throughout the world, the Centre conducts research, training and extension activities as well as programme-based activities.
Specific areas of work include:
- Hospital-and community-based clinical research in diarrhoeal diseases, respiratory infections, nutrition and child development
- Evaluating and testing community-based interventions to improve the health of population, particularly of the poor
- Laboratory-based research to adopt, develop and use scientific technology to address infectious diseases and related health problems of disadvantaged populations
- Community-based family health research, in cooperation with the Government of Bangladesh, in maternal and child health, communicable diseases, immunization, nutrition, reproductive health, and health-delivery systems
