The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) is a non-profit, non-governmental, research, information and training institution concerned with democratic development and peace-building in Africa in particular the West African sub-region. Areas of focus include:

  • governance, peace and security
  • human rights
  • gender
  • environment
  • social and economic development

One of the projects undertaken by CDD is the ‘gender budgeting initiative’, which aims to provide policy makers with access to data and best practices in Nigeria and elsewhere, on how to design a pro-poor and gender redistributive budget initiative. This, and many of the centre’s programmes are carried out in collaboration with other national and international NGOs.

CDD publishes a quarterly journal which provides detailed analysis on African political affairs. Details about this and other publications by the centre are available on the website. Working papers, in French and English, can be downloaded directly from the website.
