The Center for Democratic Governance is a new initiative created through a partnership between the University of Ouagadougou (UO), Burkina Faso and the International Center for Democrative Governance, (ICDG), University of Georgia. UO faculty have drafted a proposal and plan to admit students in October 2003.
Proposed ICDG-UO activities include:
- ICDG advice and input on course development
- short-term faculty exchanges to enhance capacity-development
- research and course development in comparative politics, government and public policy
- other joint research into such topics as alternative dispute resolution, land tenure and land use, and African customary law.
The ICDG-UO partnership may be strengthened by involving other institutions in Burkina Faso. The National School of Administration and Law provides pre- and in-service public administration education and training to civil servants. It also organises seminars on the decentralisation initiative now occurring in the country.
