The Bolivia Information Forum (BIF) was formed in mid-2006 by a group of people interested in the country and keen to make information about recent political and social developments in Bolivia more easily available to a UK-based audience. Most of BIF’s founding members have expertise in and direct experience of Bolivia or Latin America in general. All members participate in a personal capacity.
The aims of the BIF are to promote the rights and interests of the people of Bolivia, in particular the poorest sectors, by:
- promoting support for groups in Bolivia which represent the poorest sectors and defend their rights;
- increasing awareness about Bolivia in the UK through educational activities, information- sharing, discussion activities, campaigns and cultural events
- lobbying decision makers in the UK or elsewhere on issues raised by developments in Bolivia
- promoting human and other rights in Bolivia and lobbying and campaigning where rights are abused or are in danger of being abused
- furthering links between organisations with similar concerns in Bolivia and the UK
- coordinating and working with other organisations, such as non-governmental organisations and other Latin American groups which have similar objectives, in Britain and in other countries
