The mission of the Biotechnology and Development Monitor project is to support and improve policy and decision making in the field of research, development, regulation and applications related to biotechnology relevant to developing countries. It analyses world-wide developments in biotechnology, and trade and technology related international regulation, in the context of its socio-economic implications for developing countries.
The Biotechnology and Development Monitor provides a forum for discussion on the positive and/or negative impact of biotechnological innovations and international regulations on issues such as economic growth, agricultural production, food security, shifts in national and global markets, access to technology, employment, social differentiation and human rights. The analyses are of an interdisciplinary nature, with an emphasis on the integration of theoretical and empirical information from social sciences and natural sciences.
The Biotechnology and Development Monitor journal is a publication of the Department of Political Science, Universiteit van Amsterdam, Funded by the Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with contributions from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and the International Development Research Centre
