The Association for Middle East Women’s Studies is a private, non-profit, non- political, international organization of scholars interested in the study of women in the Middle East. The objectives of the Association are to advance the study of women in the Middle East. AMEWS is an affiliated organization of the Middle East Studies Association of North America.
AMEWS meets annually in conjunction with the Middle East Studies Association annual conference. AMEWS organizes conference panels and symposia for the presentation of original scholarship. Its quarterly publication ; Middle East Women’s Studies Review, critiques the literature in the field, reviews films, provides a forum for the discussion of current issues, communicates events, jobs, and fellowship opportunities, provides links for scholars and recognizes the accomplishments of its members.
The AMEWS annual prize is awarded to a junior scholar working in any discipline on a topic concerned with Middle Eastern and/or North African women.
