The Instituto APOYO is a non-profit think tank dedicated to the generation and dissemination of information, ideas, and analysis for the promotion of sustainable economic development, expanding and improving public policy options, strengthening of democracy and advancement of cultural values leading to the integration of Peruvians.

The Instituto APOYO was established in 1989 by the Chairman and directors of Grupo APOYO S.A., the Peruvian leading private firm in the areas of economic consultancy, market and opinion research, and economic magazines and reports. Instituto APOYO receives administrative, informational and professional support from the firms of Grupo APOYO S.A. in order to fulfill its mission. This allows for greater flexibility for involvement in multiple research projects, an efficient use of resources, and constant feedback.

Since its creation, Instituto APOYO has concentrated its work on public policy and governance issues, giving special emphasis to the practical application of its research results. Its main areas of concentration are Institutional Reforms (Administrative Reform, Privatization, Regulation, Decentralization, Judiciary Reform, Congressional Reform, Police Reform) and Social Policies (Education, Health, Poverty, Basic Infrastructure, etc.). Most of Instituto APOYO’s projects incorporate multidisciplinary team -economists, lawyers, political scientists, sociologysts, educational psychologists, doctors, etc.- within a neo-institutional approach to public policy issues.

Instituto APOYO has a preference for applied research and an emphasis on dissemination and outreach activities to public policy community and public opinion leaders. The work of Instituto APOYO enjoys recognition and influential capacity across the political spectrum in Peru.

As a side project, Instituto APOYO is also engaged in improving basic education of Economics and Civics in Peruvian Schools, through new textbooks and training to teachers. The Instituto APOYO is a non-profit think tank dedicated to the generation and dissemination of information, ideas, and analysis for the promotion of sustainable economic development, expanding and improving public policy options, strengthening of democracy and advancement of cultural values leading to the integration of Peruvians.
