AIPA is an economic think-tank which was established to undertake high-level, inter-disciplinary and non-partisan research on African developmental issues. Its establishment was motivated by the recognition that one of the main reasons for the failure of African countries to generate sustainable economic growth and development is the critical shortage of indigenous professional and technical skills for indigenous policy research and the formulation of implementable development programs.
AIPA undertakes research aimed at identifying problem areas and formulating strategies for their resolution. It also plays a catalytic role in facilitating the implementation of research findings through appropriate national and regional mechanisms and instruments.
