Campaign managers often seek to provide optimum visual presence and coverage for their political parties and party candidates during elections. One method of achieving this purpose relates to the use of party posters. In Ghana, however, the use of party posters is less regulated. This often leads to abuses, often manifested in discriminatory and indiscriminate attacks. This Policy Brief examines the nature and extent of poster attacks during elections in Ghana.
This Brief recommends that:
- there should be public sensitisation on the uses and management of political party posters
- political parties should seek proper permission before displaying their posters, especially in private spaces
- there should be designated poster sites for political parties during elections; and
- professionals should be engaged in the identification, monitoring and management of poster sites
