The Association for Progressive Communications, Women's Rights Programme (APC WRP) has been leading a campaign to reprioritise Section J in the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action due to the important role that media and internet and communication technologies play in both advancing and hindering women’s rights. As a key part of this campaign the organisation participated in the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW59) event in March 2015 as this linked clearly to APC WRP's work against violence against women, on women’s representation in media and online spaces, and on access and participation in the science and technology fields. Also GenderIT.org and Take Back the Tech! featured an online campaign to raise awareness around Section J and work towards a feminist internet. The main goal of the campaign is to encourage women’s rights organisations and activists to pay more attention to the relationship between gender and technology. To do this, they have created resources laying out the issues and their demands from governments, the private sector and civil society.
This webpage provides an overview of the campaign and at the bottom of the page there are links to a number of useful campaign resources.
