The School of International Relations at the St. Petersburg State University was founded in 1994 to train specialists in international relations. Being an associated member of APSIA, the School cooperates with more than 20 universities and organisations in Europe and North America and participates in a number of international projects. In addition to Masters Programmes, the School offers Postgraduate courses and a Doctorate program. Research focuses on, but is not limited to, areas such as:
- political problems of international systems and global development
- Russian history
- world history
- history of international relations and politics.
The School is composed of five departments:
- European Research
- North American Studies
- Theory and History of International Relations
- World Politics
- International Humanitarian Contacts.
There are also a number of centers affiliated with the School which focus on accumulating and disseminating knowledge and official documents:
- Center of European Documentation
- Council of Europe Regional Center
- India Documentation Center in St. Petersburg.
The School regularly organises international seminars and conferences that bring together Russian and Foreign scholars, politicians and public officers. It issues its own newspaper “Peterburgskiy Mezhdunarodnik”. Information portals are also available for students and guests.
