The Road Traffic Injuries Research Network (RTIRN) was established following interest from participants who attended a session on "Road traffic Injuries in Developing Countries" at the 1999 Global Forum for Health Research. Interested partners held their first meeting in 2000.
The objectives of the network are to:
- advocate for research to reduce the burden of road traffic injuries in low and middle-income countries (LMICs).
- set priorities for road traffic injury research in LMICs
- help develop capacity for road traffic injury research in LMICs
- promote investments for road traffic injury research in LMICs
- facilitate communication between partners involved in road traffic injury research in LMICs
- conduct strategic research on road traffic injuries in LMICs
- disseminate and promote the application and utilisation of research to reduce the burden of road traffic injuries in LMICs.
