The Institute for Policy Alternatives (IPA) is a think-tank working on policy alternatives in Africa by combining the efforts of researchers with those of policy and development practitioners.

The IPA’s research focus in on:

  • Decentralization and community governance
  • Access of the poor to basic services
  • Poverty Reduction Strategies – examining their global perspectives and the local impacts

IPA undertakes research, training and development advocacy with a core principle of citizen engagement, emphasizing voices and perspectives of the poor, especially in rural communities.
