Central research institution in Slovenia for research in education. The institute undertakes, as a public service, projects on issues of current interest in all sectors of education and related areas. International projects have included: Education for Citizenship (Council of Europe).

ERI carries out research ranging from basic interdisciplinary research connected with social and humanitarian studies, to applicative and empirical research.

The Institute also has a role in the homologation of the Slovene Education System with education systems in the EU countries. A majority of its research staff were also involved in curricular reform in Slovenia and the preparation of syllabi.

ERI is organised into several research centers:

  • Centre for Evaluation Studies
  • Centre for Studies in Cognition and Learning
  • Centre for Discourse Studies in Education
  • Centre for Philosophy of Education
  • Centre for Human Rights in Education
  • Centre for Social Sciences and Anthropology in Education
  • Developmental-Research centre for Pedagogical Initiatives Step By Step
  • Centre of Applied Epistemology

The institute’s website in English features links to individual webpages (only in Slovenian) of several of the centers as well as a link to “The School Field”, an online journal published twice a year as a double issue by the Slovene Society of Researchers in the School Field and ERI.
