EERC was created in 1995 to strengthen economics education and research capabilities in Russia and other CIS countries. The initial focus of EERC was on graduate level education and research.
The Russian program, created in 1996 and managed by a small Moscow-based secretariat, supports original economics research and organizes advanced training programs. Since 2000 EERC has been serving as the regional representative of the Global Development Network (GDN) in the CIS countries.
EERC aims to create and to support a local research culture, to encourage individual economists, and to subject research to international standards of excellence. While trying to foster high-quality research, it also puts special emphasis on local capacity building and formation of a CIS-wide professional network of social scientists engaged in policy-relevant studies. The final goal of the organizations is to bridge the gap between the academic research and the policymaking process in Russia and the CIS.
The website in English contains all the relevant information of the EERC activities, research competitions, methodological seminars, and news. It also provides access to electronic resources on economics and other social sciences.
