KazISS was established in June 1993 as a national scientific research institution to provide foreign policy makers and politicians in Kazakhstan with scientific and analytical information on foreign, economic and security policy.
The institute carries out basic researches on strategic problems of external and internal policies, of the social and economic progressing of Kazakhstan, prepares materials of analytical nature for the country leadership.
In the area of external policies the Institute conducts:
monitoring of internal political and social and economic development of the neighboring countries
- analysis of two-sided relations of Kazakhstan with Russia, China, USA, Turkey, countries of EU, and CIS states
- study of federating problems of the post-Soviet territory
- analysis of the problems of fighting terrorism and extremism
In the field of internal and social policies the Institute conducts:
- monitoring of a political situation in the Republic of Kazakhstan
- analysis of the ethnic and demographic situation and migratory processes in Kazakhstan
- study of the processes of democratization and political institutions implement in the country
In the field of economic policy the Institute conducts:
- study of the economic safety problems
- analysis of the development tendencies of world economics and analysis of their influence on Kazakhstani economy
- study of the problems of Kazakhstan involvement in the international economic complementation
- social and economic monitoring of the Republic of Kazakhstan
The institute also holds seminars, organizes conferences, round table discussions and international forums on various foreign policy and security issues.
