The Health Economics and Financing Programme (HEFP) is a Department for International Development (DFID) funded work programme located within the Health Policy Unit of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
HEFP’s aim is to improve the equity, efficiency and quality of health services in developing countries through the application of health economics and encouraging the appropriate use of economic information and techniques in decision-making. The Programme works to strengthen capacity both in-country and internationally, develops policy relevant research, and publishes and disseminates this research widely. The key research themes of the programme are:
- financing systems
- health planning and management
- public/private collaboration and regulation
- health economics concepts and techniques
- the relationship between health economics research and policy.
