A Government agency founded in 1965, the Bureau carries out research in support of the economic and social development of Tanzania and the teaching of economics at the University of Dar-es-Salaam, in collaboration with the Department of Economics
The Bureau engages in both policy and academic research and teaching, as well as advisory services. Its research programmes are in the fields of: Agriculture and rural development; Environmental policy; Health; Industrial policy; Informal sector; Macroeconomic policy; Microeconomic policy; Monetary policy; Privatization; Tax policy; and Trade policy
