This position paper outlines the Women’s Major Group vision and priorities for the delivery of the sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the post-2015 development agenda.

The WMG welcomes the proposed SDG on gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls and calls for strong and global support for the full realisation of the rights of women and girls which, the paper argues, should be adder as a cross-cutting issue. It calls on governments to take meaningful action on sustainable development and argues that the implementation of goals and targets should be supported by strong ethical and transparent financial and non-financial means of implementation, based on strong environmental, human rights and gender equality safeguards and redress mechanisms. The paper argues that a sharp focus on intergenerational equity and justice needs to be integrated. It emphasises the importance of accountability, as well as public participation, especially from women and marginalised groups, in the design, implementation and monitoring of national and international plans.
