SESRTCIC is part of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC). It undertakes research in the following areas:
- Economic development
- Debts
- Social development
- Role of the private sector
It also undertakes technical studies, reports and background documents to identify the possibilities of cooperation among OIC countries in various socio- economic fields. The Center organizes short-term courses aim at providing training to high-level staff from the OIC countries in various socio-economic fields.
The Center collects, processes and disseminates socio-economic data and information relating to the OIC member countries. It maintains a specialized library and a system of databases that support time series data on all member countries collected at regular intervals from the national statistical authorities in each member country.
The Center publishes The Journal of Economic Cooperation Among Islamic Countries. It is a quarterly journal of applied research in development economics. An Arabic version of selected articles appears once a year.
