Pastoralist Development Initiative’s major aim is the empowerment of Nomadic and Semi-settled Pastoralists. Its activities includes Training, Field Work, Animation, Practical demonstrations. Presently, PDI is carrying out a project to empower Pastoralists at Dutse, FCT to be fully aware of, and to exercise their rights to security for their cattle.
PDI carries out its activities under the following programmes:
- community Mobilisation For Empowerment (COME)
- training in Animal Production and Health (TRAPH)
- conflict Prevention & Management (COPAM)
- functional Nomadic Education (FNE)
- primary Health Care Counselling (PHCC)
- development Networking (DEVNET)
PDI is a membership organisation with a Board of Trustees Their objectives are to:
- empower pastoralists to be fully informed, self-reliant and in control of their welfare and productive activities in line with global trends
- assist pastoralists to achieve sustainable development through individual and group initiativewithout abandoning their core values
