MIMAP is a Program Initiative of the International Development Research Centre (Ottawa) supporting interdisciplinary research in developing countries in order to enhance capacity to analyse and create alternate policies that achieve the goals of economic stabilization and adjustment while reducing their impact on vulnerable groups. The Specific Objectives MIMAP are:

(a) Enhance the research capacity of developing countries to analyze the impact of macroeconomic policies on their citizens

(b) Provide new instruments for policy design and analysis, by developing rigorous analytical tools and poverty monitoring systems

(c) Strengthen the ability of policy-makers to negotiate with international players, such as the banks and other multilateral and bilateral organizations

(d) Bring together researchers, politicians, government officials, and NGOs in policy dialogue at the national and regional level

(e) Promote the exchange of research results and policy dialogue among countries

Currently, the initiative includes research projects in Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, India, Lao PDR, Morocco, Nepal, Pakistan the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. In addition, the initiative includes a number of global or regional thematic research networks which explore the links between structural adjustment and gender, health, and the environment.
