Initially established in 1996 as a project of International HIV/AIDS Alliance, KHANA operated as an NGO from 1997 and was officially registered as a local NGO in 2000. Since then it has operated as a linking organization of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance and is one of the most respected and recognized organizations focusing on HIV and AIDS in Cambodia today.

Currently KHANA has over 60 staff and 10 volunteers, working across four departments. These hard working staff members support more than 60 local NGOs and networks to deliver prevention, treatment, care and support services to communities in 17 of Cambodia’s 24 provinces and municipalities.

KHANA’s Integrated Care and Prevention Program (ICP) remains its largest. The central focus of this program is the provision of home-based care services by trained Home Care Teams (HCT) to people living with HIV (PLHIV), orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and their families. Services provided by Home Care teams include: referrals to health services, positive prevention information, access to income generation activities (IGA), food support, and supporting school attendance for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC).

KHANA continues to prioritize the prevention needs of those most at risk through its Focused Prevention Program. Partners implementing projects under this program target those populations most at risk from HIV with specific messages, outreach activities and interventions. In Cambodia, those most at risk include: sex workers and their clients, men who have sex with men (MSM), and drug users. Other groups reached through this program include youth, mobile populations, married couples, people living with HIV and orphans and vulnerable children.

Finally, KHANA is well known for its capacity building work in systems strengthening and good governance. KHANA’s history of transparency, accountability and anti-corruption practices have made it a recognized leader in good governance in Cambodia. We make efforts to ensure high quality management systems within our own organization and those of our implementing partners and other stakeholders. KHANA is committed to ensuring that our partners have the capacity to develop and implement efficient, transparent and accountable management practices.

KHANA’s work, and the work of its partners, is made possible through the generous support of the Unites States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the European Union, and the World Food Programme.

Our programs are supported by a Senior Management Team, made up of the Executive Director, Director of Finance and Administration, Director of Program Management, Director of Strategic Information, and Director of Technical Support and Best Practice. KHANA also enjoys technical assistance from the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, and the support of a highly active Board of Directors.
