HARTI is established in order to generate a range of policy analysis that covers key determinants of human and resource development in the agrarian sector. It produces research in the field of socio economics relating to the use of land and water in Sri Lanka. It also develops skills and infrastructure for providing relevant training to farmers, field workers and managers in both the state and non-state sectors. The Organisation’s research focuses on the social, economic and institutional factors that are necessary to agricultural and rural development. In addition to this, the main research areas are:

  • agricultural and environment resource management
  • agricultural policy and project evaluation
  • irrigation, water management and agrarian relations
  • marketing food policy and agri-business
  • human resources and institutional development
  • statistics and data processing
